Teachers wishing to migrate to Australia under the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program must be assessed by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), formerly Teaching Australia.

AITSL is the designated skills assessment authority for the following teaching occupations:

• Pre-primary school teacher (ASCO 2411-11)
• Primary school teacher (ASCO 2412-11)
• Secondary school teacher (ASCO 2413-11)

Changes to the English language proficiency and supervised teaching practice assessment criteria will be effective from 22 March 2010.
